STELA

[Distance from Isla Empieza]: 2 weeks.

[Terrain]: Quite less desert and arid land than anticipated, but still enough to surprise visitors. There are numerous oasis throughout the landscape and plenty of farms, but if one were to map this massive island, they would notice that the main farmable lands are by the river that cuts through the middle of the island itself. It should be noted that this river isn't, at all, natural. It's cut through the center of the island in a straight line and it looks as if it's been dug out of the earth.

[Weather]: Think Egypt, because this is based immensely on Egypt.

[Is the island inhabited?]: Very much so!

[If so, what is the culture like here?]: Though the structure of the island's current layout is based around slavery, this is only a recent development in its culture. Anyone who looks closely enough would realize that, largely, Stela was an incredibly egalitarian place to live. There was very little crime, people generally did what they could to help one another and there were no wars written in history. Written, anyway. The island is essentially run by a group called 'The Night Sky', which is a cult of assassins who cull any and all people who pose a threat to the island's peace.

The only threat they haven't dealt with is a group of outsiders who have established a massive slave-trade on Stela, itself. Intervention hasn't occurred if only because the slave-trade is limited to slaves from other islands and the seas rather than Stela itself and, naturally, it's provided the island a great deal of profit.

There are two cities on the island. There is Maat, the trade city and then there is Tauret, the farming commune. Maat is roughly ten times the size of Tauret in terms of buildings and people, while Tauret's land-space is much more expansive. Maat has a lush garden in the center, public and private plumbing readily available and is where the island's political figures reside.

[Island peculiarities]: The slaving group that has taken residence on the island is lead by 'The Sun's Path', a radical who tortures slaves and has commissioned the construction of a massive pyramid in his name. There is also 'River Bed', a young man with the ability to manipulate and turn into water who's responsible for the ridiculous river in the center of the island and Maat's water abundance. There's 'Tamer', whose natural ability to control others through torture and manipulation has landed her as the primary slaver of the group. 'The Sands' is another young man who influences the wind and keeps stand-storms from ravaging crops. He's also responsible for pushing away ships that look to enter the main port without permission. Phobia, an outsider, has been hired by the group as security. If researched, one would find Phobia has a rather large sum of gold called for a bounty on her head: 20,000. She can control venomous animals, create her own poison and is an incredibly dangerous combatant, comparable enough to River Bed and The Sands.

It's said that the island could be entirely self-sufficient regardless of The Sands and River Bed's involvement with their affairs, while it's also said that the involvement of these two actually has deteriorated their living standards, but it's largely tolerated because of the money their slavery ring brings in to them.

Magic and 'supernatural abilities' aren't at all uncommon on Stela, but they're still uncommon enough that not many people possess them.

Residents of the island are largely friendly to outsiders, but ultimately wary if only because of the attention of The Night Sky. The Night Sky, while not likely to intervene in issues unless they do their research, collectively possesses a great deal of power as its members are skilled in the art of 'stepping inside shadows' and perfectly concealing themselves in darkness. They're remarked as ideal assassins.

Other than worrying about their secret assassin police, residents of the island don't stigmatize pirates at all. They're more oriented towards trade and openly welcome whoever comes to see them; however, they do have a strong dislike of the Navy, so there is no established Naval base anywhere on the island and there is no Navy presence around at all. Pirates, as well, are usually on their best behavior on this island and don't cause as much trouble as they would, elsewhere. You have the Night Sky to thank for that!
