♦ AEOLIPILE ISLE
[Distance from Isla Empieza]: Approximately five days.
[Terrain]: Small mountains and one large, yet (mostly) dormant volcano surrounds most of the perimeter of the island, effectively creating a wall that separates the outside on the sea from the core of the island. However, there is a path that has been shaped by human hands, as well as various caves and tunnels, both human made and otherwise, that allows for entrance into the core. The actual core, which is where most of the inhabitants live, possesses excellent soil for growing crops, as well as various geysers spread randomly throughout core. There are also hot springs, which is one of the things the island is most known for, but the majority are located along the mountains.
[Weather]: An autumn-like climate. The island's steam blocks out a quite a bit of sunlight, so that cools down the otherwise tropical island considerably.
[Is the island inhabited?]: Yes. Quite the bustling population, as a matter of fact.
[If so, what is the culture like here?]: Aeolipile Isle's culture is probably the most interesting thing about it. The people who live here are all very rich, very talented, very intelligent, or some combination of the three. It's definitely one of the more technology-advanced islands around, but the kind of technology they use is a bit...odd. Just about everything on the isle is steam-powered. Thanks to the tech they have on the isle, most of the inhabitants live in a good sum of comfort, which allows them to focus on the arts. Clothes, sculptures, music, painting, etc.
So basically it's Steampunk Island.
As you can probably imagine the island attracts numerous tourists, mostly art collectors, the beautiful elite, artists, scientists, etc. Its inhabitants are all very welcoming to visitors and tourists, as they are the islands main source of income outside its small selection of exports. The island's government is run by a small group of senators and aristocrats, while a special police force is used to ensure the peace is kept.
Most people think of the island as a paradise where you can let your days fly by in splendor and happiness, but recent rumors make it seem like something troubling lies just beneath the surface.
[Island peculiarities]: STEAM. The island has loads of it. From the devices, to the transportation, to the hot springs, to the island itself. The mountain range is connected to/a part of the main (mostly) dormant volcano, and as such they emit steam from various cracks in the range year round.
Oh, and the island's shape is a bit odd as well. It's almost completely round, while the mountain range formation looks kind of like a diamond ring, with the (mostly) dormant volcano being placed where the diamond would be. There's also a small space uncovered by mountains at the bottom of the island. This spot is the islands main (and only beach). Past the beach is a large forest, which leads to the island's core.
