♦ BREAKNECK CAY
[Distance from Isla Empieza]: A week or more, depending on wind and weather.
[Terrain]: Rocky shoals that have caused many a shipwreck giving way to a beach littered with debris from less fortunate visitors. Farther inland is a thick, dark jungle filled with the occasional strange rock formation and hidden pool where the jungle denizens (friendly and not so friendly) come to drink.
[Weather]: Hot and humid with the only respite coming from the occasional sea breeze. Look out for thunderstorms!
[Is the island inhabited?]: Only by your requisite jungle fauna, but you'd think you'd find some people, especially with all of those shipwrecks around...
[If so, what is the culture like here?]: If there are natives at all, they must be pretty secretive. And if anyone has survived one of the many shipwrecks and taken up residence, well, the loneliness must have driven them mad by now...
[Island peculiarities]: Because of its treacherous coast, Breakneck Cay has become an ideal place for pirates to hide treasure they don't want anyone else finding. Of course, this has led to many a treasure seeker with a lot of ambition and not a lot of sailing skill meeting their end on the shoals and leaving their own belongings behind. You can find many a treasure map that leads to this island, but finding the treasure itself is another story entirely.
