♦ ISLAND GRAN CANTIDAD DE VACAS
[Distance from Isla Empieza]: 9 days.
[Terrain]: Steppe-like terrain, hilly peppered with a few groves here and there, crossed with streams now and again, but mostly just a lot of land.
In the north west corner of the island, there is a golden door set in the ground, inlaid with decorative cow skulls that seem to be made of lapis lazuli. This leads to an underground maze that seems to have been carved from the natural caves. If you can avoid the traps, pitfalls, and other such unpleasantness, you'll find caches of precious gems hidden throughout. But it's easier getting in than getting out with treasure, especially as it seems something is stalking you in the darkness. Something hungry.
[Weather]: Full of rain and mist with occasional sunbursts.
[Is the island inhabited?]: On occasion.
[If so, what is the culture like here?]: Being the stopover place for a nomadic seafaring peoples, arrival at PracaVaca brings on a festive atmosphere as they take the time to have clan gatherings and celebrate various festivals. While they are not fond of outsiders they are polite to welcome visitors at their door, provided they are out in three days. However, that is only restricted to their settlements that are a stone's throw away from the beaches. Inland, don't bother them and they won't bother you.
[Island peculiarities]: The fauna of this island is almost predominantly bovine. There are small cows, big cows, hairless cows, cows with luxurious hair that ripples in the wind, and a fairly malevolent breed of llama. If you are lucky you may even come across one of the Great Ones, cows with horns that seem to be made of gold, silver or inset with gems. Killing them is said to be bad luck.
But a word of caution, once night falls on this island, the predators come out. What are they? No one knows, but it seems to be the same kind of creature that stalks the twisted halls of the labyrinth. Or are they humans dressed for some bizarre ritual? Either way, if you don't keep your wits about you, a hornblade knife in your gut will be the last thing you ever experience.
