CENTAUREA

[Distance from Isla Empieza]: Two weeks.

[Terrain]: Forest of purple fur tree. the purple varies from light lavender to a very dark royle and everything in between. the tree trunks are a dark brown, it’s just the fine soft fur needles that are purple. The ground i sloped up, but not a high mountain, but more rolling forest covered hills that slowly elevate here and there, making small shallow valleys. It’s a small island!

[Weather]: Chilly, cool, always a good breeze going through valleys. Snow caps the tips of any hills that reach a bit higher then others. A good storm will bring snow clear down to water side. This island can be considered a "Winter Island".

[Is the island inhabited?]: Yes!

[If so, what is the culture like here?]: The only population here are small villages nestled in the valleys of the island, closest to streams that lead to the ocean. There are some settlements up in the higher parts, in the snow and cold, that live in caves, but otherwise most locals stay lower in the valleys.

Centaurs! People here have four legs and a tail, generally of the horse kind, but not always. Some are smaller, like goats, others are taller like giraffes, some are wide and heavy as elephant legs, while others still ride belly low to the ground like a crocodile. It just depends on the person that arrives.

That’s right, when you arrive and step upon land, a glowing natural green light whips around you and changes a persons lower half into an animal that is fitting of them. Always four legs and a tail however, always animal like. It is the curse of this island. those who choose to live life here do so as a Centaur. The curse washes off as you leave the island, returning you to original form, but honestly, it’s easier to get around with four legs.

[Island peculiarities]: A strange curse that leaves people with animal legs isn’t strange enough? There is little to the island to worry about. There is however, caves up in the hills that are guarded by Centaur Sentinels that, if you fight them to get through you might find a vast treasure hidden deep in the hillside. Centaurs don’t care for gold and trinkets and trade in trade goods only. Money is pointless to them. But this? This is the treasure of their Goddess, the original Witch who cursed the island to begin with. Every year they take minerals, furs, gems and other sparkly things and throw it into the cave, letting it fall inside and fill it up, offering these as gifts to the goddess in order to keep life peaceful.

Getting in is easier than getting out, even with a small sack or pocket full. Once you get inside, leaving means you are an enemy of all the locals on the island. They will stop at nothing to attack and take the offerings back. A normally peaceful island turns dark and angry.

No it actually turns darker and angry! Once you step inside the cave and pick up a single coin, the entire island seems to cloud over, the purple of the tree darken and twist, and the locals pull out weapons and go on hunts. If you DO get treasure here, it’s nice, if you can make it off the island that is. Once you leave, it all goes back to normal again.

The island is actually named after the wild plants called Centaurea that grow wild throughout the forests. Thistle like, they make a nice wine that can be traded for. High alcohol content to humans. No strange side effects. The liquid is a lovely lavender color.
