HIMMELEN

[Distance from Isla Empieza]: A hard two weeks sail.

[Terrain]: Aside from the cliffs that keep it above sea-level and four gently sloping ports, it is completely flat, though there are some cave entrances here and there leading to beautiful and extensive caverns. Otherwise, the only thing that breaks up the monotony of the hard land are the abundance of pine trees, aspen and firs, not to mention hardy little houses. In the southeast there is a giant fresh water lake known as Mirror Lake and this is where the high society live.

[Weather]: Himmelen is a place with long winters and short fierce summers that last about two months. For the most part it's cold, cold, and more cold with lots of snow.

[Is the island inhabited?]: Yes.

[If so, what is the culture like here?]: For the most part, hospitable and friendly with an emphasis on craftsmanship, particularly wood, textiles made from the hair of silver blue yaks and extraordinarily fluffy sheep, and beer. Copious amounts of beer. Himmelen is also known as the birthplace of navigators, astronomers and clock-makers--since when the skies are clear, you can see forever, but when being pounded with snow 10 days out of the week, what else do you have to do but make clocks?

Though open to visitors of all kinds, they've been known to turn away pirates, and those that excessively abuse or refuse their hospitality are often left out in the cold. Literally.

[Island peculiarities]: Nothing too peculiar. Rumors of a yeti or two, but those are just rumors. Probably. The island is famous, though, for being able to see the northern lights. When they're reflected in Mirror Lake it makes everything serene and beautiful.
